When deciding on web site designers, you also need to consider whether thye believe search engine optimization is an added service, or if it's included in the web site design.

Search engine optimization is nothing more than "optimizing" your web site design for the key words you've chosen which helps your page turn up in the search engine results for those keywords or keyword phrases.  Search engine optimization is includes assistance in choosing appropriate keywords, a domain name, page names, titles, headings, page descritpions, etc. that will provide a good head start on achieving good search engine results.

My point is, don't be fooled by search engine optimization services!  Unless you have a very small niche and you're only looking for a few customers each year, search engine optimization all by itself is not likely to provide you with good search engine results immediately.

Search engine optimization is merely incorporating the keywords for your target audience in the design of the website.  If you're hoping for good search engine results, then your domain name (URL), web page names, titles, meta tags and web page description all have to incorporate the key words you're targeting.

In most instances, you may want to target several different keywords or search terms for your business and if your Albuquerque web designer charges by the page, then you really need to consider how much you want to invest in a web site that has good search engine results.
